Several organizations present a "Moving Wall" -- a scaled down replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The purpose is to bring the wall to people who may not have the opportunity to travel to see the original. Many have found healing, a renewed patriotism, and pride in service after visiting the walls. Highlighted are area veterans who are listed on the wall. The first to travel to the Central Illinois area was a half-scale Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall, from an organization in Michigan. The next to visit was The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, which was three-fifths the size of the original memorial. The last to visit to date was the American Veteran's Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall, also a three-fifths scale, from Texas.
The collection includes pamphlets, programs, and newspaper clippings about events over the years as the walls came to Central Illinois. Additionally, there are insights into the scope of planning and fundraising needed to create these events. This collection covers visits to Bloomington, Normal, and LeRoy in 2000, 2015 and 2016.
