Helmuth and Augusta Mau came to the United States from Germany in the 1890s. The Maus settled in Bloomington, and Helmuth worked as a tinner for the Chicago and Alton Railroad Shops. Helmuth and Augusta had three children—Katie Louise, Hattie, and William. Hattie married Allen McCoy (1886-1953). Hattie and Allen had two children—Ben F. McCoy, and Helen (1913-1993), who married Donovan Haskell.
Donovan Haskell worked at Williams Oil-O-Matic and Helen Haskell worked at State Farm for 20-plus years. In 1953 Helen was elected to the board of directors of the National Industrial Recreation Association. Of the 14 board members, she was the only woman. Helen and Donovan Haskell had one daughter, Mary Helen (1944), who grew up to be a nurse.
This collection contains genealogy papers, a certificate of citizenship, newspaper clippings, tax receipts, report cards, and handwritten documents from the 1800s, written in German.
