Thomas Ewing was born in Lincoln, Illinois on September 19, 1935, the son of Samuel and Harriett Ewing in Atlanta, Illinois. He was educated in the Atlanta public school system. He graduated from Millikin University (1957) and the John Marshall Law School (1968). He served as the executive director of the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce from 1962 to 1967, when he became Director of the Harvey, Illinois Association of Commerce and Industry. In November 1968 he became the Assistant State’s Attorney in Livingston County, serving until 1973. He was elected to the Illinois State House of Representatives in 1975 and to the U. S. House of Representatives in 1991, serving there until 2000. He owns farms in Livingston and McLean County. He was first married to Janet Haning and then to Connie Lupo. He has three children and three step children.
