In the Fall of 1893, Letitia Green Stevenson, wife of the U.S. Vice President Adlai Stevenson, led efforts to organize a Bloomington chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR). At the time, she was serving as the President General of the National DAR. After six months of preliminary work, the local chapter with fourteen charter members was organized on May 3, 1894. The chapter has the distinction of having two members serve as President General—Letitia Green Stevenson and her sister, Julia Green Scott, who served 1909-1913.
The collection consists mostly of annual yearbooks, though one will also find various miscellaneous items related to the local DAR chapter. Yearbooks typically include purpose and eligibility, the “Pledge of Allegiance,” “Star-Spangled Banner,” “American’s Creed,” general information about the Chapter, members and officers, committees, annual program, members in memoriam, and treasurer’s report.
