The Stubblefield family originated in England, with brothers Edward, William, and John emigrating to Halifax County, Virginia. John’s son Robert Stubblefield moved to Fayette County, Ohio, after serving in the War of 1812. Robert’s marriage to Sarah Funk, of Fayette County, Kentucky, formed the connection between the Stubblefield and Funk families. After Sarah’s death, Robert married her sister Dorothy. The family moved from Ohio, settling in Funk township, McLean County, Illinois, in 1824.

Robert Stubblefield purchased land from the federal government and immediately built a log cabin. He accumulated land until he owned three thousand acres. Robert Stubblefield continued to live on the land in his original purchase and died on the front porch of the homestead in 1870. The Stubblefield family flourished.

The Stubblefield Family Collection consists of genealogical lists, recollections and memoirs of some family members (most in individual folders), and a few items such as business receipts and a memory book.
