The first Audubon Society in McLean County was called the Cardinal Audubon Club, organized in 1962. The John Wesley Powell Audubon Society replaced the Cardinal Audubon Club in 1976 and was chartered with the National Audubon Society. The Society takes part in environmental preservation in McLean County, advocating for preservation of the natural habitat for birds. The name of the organization was changed in 2024 to the Grand Prairie Bird Alliance.
The collection contains meeting agendas, minutes, newsletters, and flyers for the activities of the clubs from 1962 to the present. The annual reports to the National Society for several years, photographs of two bird watching outings, and reports of the annual bird counts are included.
