Springtime in “BloNo’ Iris Walk, 1939

June 5th, 2015

Although you wouldn’t know it from this past weekend’s weather, the end of May and the beginning of June mark the traditional start of the garden walk season in Bloomington-Normal. Accordingly, on May 25, 1939, the Bloomington-Normal Garden Club staged an Iris Walk. Seen here is a group gathered at Jessie Dillon’s yard, 404 Broadway, Normal.

Dillon boasted of having planted no less than 180 varieties of Irises, more than 100 of which were in bloom at the time! Pictured (from left) are Emma Veatch, a Mrs. Clark Green (first name unknown), Bessie Price, and Dillon.
