Freitag children, rural Stanford February 1959

Jane and Doug Freitag horse around with a canine friend at their family farm outside of Stanford in Allin Township. They’re standing atop a cob pile outside a smart-looking corn crib.

It probably didn’t mean much to them back then, but their father, 31-year-old Ward G. Freitag, was just tabbed as the McLean County pick for the national Junior Chamber of Commerce’s “Outstanding Young Farmer” contest. Ward Freitag’s livestock operation involved fattening 500 head of cattle and producing more than 1,000 head of hogs annually.

Ward Freitag passsd on February 11 2019. He is my grandfather. He has numerous pictures in your museum. And was a innovative farmer in this community. I was involved in putting up your grain bin display in the museum and have followed in the local agriculture business taught to me by this great man.
