Tree Sculptures at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery

Beginning in 2015, Evergreen Memorial Cemetery began commissioning sculptures carved from trees in the cemetery that were marked for removal. Three freestanding sculptures were created: an airplane in memoriam of the 1948 Memorial Day plane crash in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, a statue of Dorothy and Toto from the Wizard of Oz in honor of the final resting place of Dorothy Gage, niece of the author L. Frank Baum, and a sculpture to celebrate Hall of Fame baseball player Charles “Old Hoss” Radbourn, who still holds a record for the most winning games pitched in a single season. Unfortunately, the sculptures of the airplane and Old Hoss have been lost due to environmental factors. As of 2025, the statue of Dorothy remains standing and can still be visited at the cemetery.
