Crafting History: Dyeing with Dinner Scraps will bring the process of solar plant-based dyeing virtually to our participants. Our Curator of Collections, Jackie Cain, will bring her expertise in historic dyeing and textiles to Crafting History. This program was presented June 28, 2023. Participants will get materials to make a plant-based dye and unbleached cotton fabric. We will then learn some techniques to tie-dye our fabrics with our natural dyes. After that, the sun does all the work! Participants will place their tied fabric in a glass jar and let the sun help the dyeing process. Jackie and Maria will explain how natural dyes work, the history of natural dyes, and ways you can incorporate this practice into your life.
