Calling ALL Knitters and Crocheters, grab your needles and hooks, some yarn, a friend or two, and come and knit for a bit!
The second Knit In for 2025 will be Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Illinois Art Station. This event will be held on the patio at the Art Station (please bring a lawn chair to sit on. If inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors). Knitters and crocheters are welcome to come and create charity items or work on their own projects in the company of like-minded crafters.
This quarter’s featured projects are making pet blankets for local animal shelters through Comfort for Critters, or red, white and blue lap afghans for veterans who are patients at Carle BroMenn Medical Center.
Volunteers have been knitting and crocheting blankets to comfort homeless pets living in animal shelters across the United States for the past over 15 years. While these pets await adoption, the blankets provide a comfortable bed year-round. When they are adopted, their blanket goes with them, providing something familiar as they adjust to their “forever family.” Local beneficiaries of these blankets are the Humane Society of Central Illinois in Normal, McLean County Animal Control, and Pet Central Helps in Bloomington. For more information about the project, lists of participating shelters, or free patterns to use, please visit http://comfortforcritters.org/.
Participants can also make a red, white, and blue lap afghan for veteran patients at Carle BroMenn Medical Center. Any pattern, knit or crochet, can be used. Lap afghans should be either 36 inches by 48 inches or 30 inches by 40 inches, but must be in red, white, and blue yarn.
Parking will be available in the parking lot on Linden Street, down the hill from the Art Station. There will be limited parking in the circle drive way directly outside of IAS. See this link for a parking map: https://illinoisartstation.org/visit/
