This fascinating photograph is a mystery to Museum staff. The only thing we’re sure about is that it was taken on June 30, 1958. We do not know the who, what, where, or why. Capparella, associate professor of zoology and curator of vertebrates at Illinois State University- The snake pictured is "a big Bullsnake (now called Gophersnake)" There was also a call for action- "Let your Facebook readers know to contact me (apcappar@ilstu.edu) with any recent herp [amphibian and reptile] photos for central Illinois as I’ve been accumulating some good records through citizen reports."
