Photo of the Week, 118: Acid Flashback! Local Rock Festival Held 45 Years Ago

May 28th, 2015

This weekend marks the 45th anniversary of the Kickapoo Creek Rock Festival held outside of the McLean County community of Heyworth, May 30 through June 1, 1970. The three-day festival drew an estimated 60,000 spectators to Dave Lewis’ 320-acre farm and featured the likes of BB King, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Canned Heat, and Country Joe and the Fish. “One of the many highlights of the festival came Sunday when hundreds of festival goers crowded into Kickapoo Creek for a jam session with several musicians,” The Pantagraph reported. “The scene quickly turned into the stompingest, splashingest swimming party ever held in Central Illinois. The jam session lasted nearly six hours.”
