Fishing at Miller Park on Bloomington’s west side has been a time-honored local tradition since the late 1800s. This Depression-era photograph shows the opening of the 1938 fishing season on June 16. That’s eight-year-old Billy Bryan Vandevender holding a string of some 18 pan fish. To the right are D.M. Aldridge and his one-and-a-half year-old son Ronald Gene. The boy holding the pole on the left is unidentified. Happy National Go Fishing Day from the Museum!
