{ "name":"Slow Art Day on Route 66", "description":"

We’re excited to participate in the fifth annual citywide Slow Art Day on Route 66! This inclusive, accessible art education and art appreciation event is for all ages, rain or shine, on Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There are over twenty participating locations spanning McLean County’s stretch of Route 66 this year. Click here to view a map of the stops.

At the McLean County Museum of History, we’re encouraging folks to slow down and appreciate the work of local farmer-turned-sculptor Robert Cumpston.

One of his iconic llama sculptures is this year’s featured Sculpture on the Square, and we have a robust display of his work on the Museum's first floor. Visitors can sit on an antique bench to slowly look and ponder what in the heck the metal scraps were before they became works of art!

It’s always free to view the Llama Sculpture on the Square, but we’ll be waiving our regular admission fees for Slow Art Day participants to see more of Cumpston’s work inside the Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The local festivities will conclude with a closing reception featuring sips and bites from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Herb Eaton Studio and Gallery, located at 411 N. Center Street in Downtown Bloomington.
