Calling ALL Knitters and Crocheters, grab your needles and hooks, some yarn, a friend or two, and come and knit for a bit!

The first Knit In for 2027 will be Saturday, February 6 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Bloomington Public Library. Knitters and crocheters are welcome to come and create charity items or work on their own projects in the company of like-minded crafters.

This quarter’s featured project will be making hats and scarves for the School Street Food Pantry and soap sacks that will be donated to local shelters.

Founded in 2018, the School Street Food Pantry provides food and supplies to currently enrolled college and trade school students in the Bloomington-Normal, Illinois area who are experiencing food insecurity. The pantry is located inside Normal First United Methodist Church. To make sure that students are prepared for winter weather, the Pantry is looking for assistance collecting winter gear such as hats and scarves which can be given to students in need. Hats and scarves can be of any style, preferably made of washable wool or synthetic fibers. Variety of adult sizes needed. Scarves should be 60 inches in length. 

Soap sacks can be knitted or crocheted, but must be made of cotton yarn. The soap sacks will be donated to local shelters, food pantries, veterans’ clinics and social service agencies. The Museum will provide the soap to include with the sacks.

Parking will be available in the main parking lot at the library or on the street.
