The Museum is proud to launch its new Social Justice Walking Tour website in partnership with Not In Our Town (NIOT), thanks to a generous “Under Our Wing” grant from Business Builders Marketing and additional support from the Illinois Humanities Council and Healing Illinois.
The site, blono-social-justice-tour.org, brings to life Bloomington's rich social justice and activism history. Utilizing a color-coded map, historical and contemporary photographs, and information from the Museum's collection, users are guided through 15 locations within a half-mile radius of the Museum. The site also serves as a valuable informational resource, accessible to anyone from anywhere, with an internet connection, at any time.
To celebrate the launch of the Social Justice Walking Tour website, the Museum is offering an opportunity to take a free, guided tour with Museum Librarian Bill Kemp and NIOT Co-Chair Mike Matejka on Thursday, June 1, at 5:30 PM.
The guided tour will begin in historic downtown Bloomington on the east side of the Museum Square and continue south through the warehouse district, ending near St. Mary's Church.
Please note that you will walk approximately 2.5 miles over two hours and stand at various stops. We highly encourage you to bring bottled water and wear comfortable shoes.
Advanced registration is required and is limited to the first 25 registrants.
