Democracy Dialogues: "Consent of the Governed"

This will be the fifth and final installment of the Museum's Democracy Dialogues series. Join us at the YWCA to learn about the historical context behind the phrase "Consent of the Governed" and take part in intergenerational dialogue about what it means to us today.

The event will begin with a presentation by Dr. Robert Bradley, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State University, on the phrase's historical context. We will then begin facilitated small group discussions to reflect on:

• What does this founding principle mean to you?

• How have things changed in our society since 1776?

• How has this principle been upheld?

• What impact does it still have on our nation today?

At the end of each discussion, participants will be given information on how to get more involved in our community and become more civically engaged.
