{ "name":"Crafting History: Dyeing with Dinner Scraps", "description":"

Our next Crafting History will be on June 28th at 6pm. Crafting History: Dyeing with Dinner Scraps will bring the process of solar plant-based dyeing virtually to our participants. Our Curator of Collections, Jackie Cain, will bring her expertise in historic dyeing and textiles to Crafting History.

Participants will get materials to make a plant-based dye and unbleached cotton fabric. We will then learn some techniques to tie-dye our fabrics with our natural dyes. After that, the sun does all the work! Participants will place their tied fabric in a glass jar and let the sun help the dyeing process. Jackie and Maria will explain how natural dyes work, the history of natural dyes, and ways you can incorporate this practice into your life.

To cover the cost of supplies, kits will be $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Kits will be available for pick up n the museum's Visitor's Center the week of June 19.
