July 1st, 2014

Listen to the audio on WGLT's website here

McHistory goes back in time to explore big moments and small stories from McLean County history. McHistory episodes can be heard periodically on WGLT's Sound Ideas.

America's most successful woman playwright is all but unknown today.

In this episode of McHistory we hear excerpts from a newspaper interview with this actor, director, playwright, and producer of comedies of manners after going to Illinois State Normal University and starting her own elocution school in Bloomington.

The works of Rachel Crothers are undergoing a revival of sorts with new stage productions in recent years. The plays of this independent woman are also being republished.

McHistory is a co-production of GLT and the McLean County Museum of History. This episode included the voices of Librarian Bill Kemp and Museum Curator of Collections and Exhibits Susan Hartzold and was produced by GLT's Charlie Schlenker.
