Come learn and explore as we celebrate the grand opening of our newest changing exhibit, More Than A Game: A Community History of Baseball & Softball, on Saturday, July 18.
For over 150 years, McLean County’s ballfields, dugouts, and stands have reflected the evolving story of our community — its shifts in leisure, technology, race, and gender. From the first games played before the Civil War to today’s thriving women’s softball leagues, these sports mirror the changing fabric of American life.
Stop by the Museum's table on our plaza to test your knowledge with Take Me Out To The Ball Game Trivia before you explore the exhibit starting at 9 a.m.
At 2 p.m. exhibit guest curator and the Museum's librarian, Bill Kemp, will present a program about the exhibit, sharing insight into exhibit development and more about the long and deep roots that baseball and softball has in McLean County. Light refreshments will be served.
From 6 to 8 p.m. head back down to the Museum for activities on our lawn including Home Run Ladder Toss, Dizzy Bat, trivia, and free face painting by the Zoo Lady and Her Zoo Crew. Finally, grab your lawn chairs and find a good seat for Movies at the Mural, which will be showing A League of Their Own, which tells the fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
