Memorial Day flowers, 1960.

Americans began regularly placing flowers on the graves of those who gave their lives in defense of the country in the years after the Civil War. Back then it was known as Decoration Day.
Seen here is an unidentified woman laying flowers in an unknown cemetery in the Bloomington area. If you can help identify this touching scene, please contact Museum Librarian Bill Kemp at BKemp@mchistory.org.
