DBA Once Upon a Holiday

Come out for the Downtown Bloomington Association’s “Once upon a Holiday”, Friday evening, December 1, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. See the live window vignettes in the shops and visit the Museum for an evening of music and refreshments, including adult eggnog, a model railroad for the kids and celebrity readings of “Twas the night before Christmas” by IWU and ISU presidents, Eric Jensen and Dr. Larry Dietz.

In the spirit of giving, the Museum will also host ‘Fix it Friday’ on Friday evening and again on Saturday. ISU Fashion students will offer their skills to the public, mending and repairing basic clothing. All events are free and open to the public.

Lunch and Learn: The History of Farming in the Great Corn Belt with Don Meyer

Nearly two hundred years have passed since the earliest settlers began to arrive in McLean county and during that period, we have sen the settlement of the land and the conversion of swamplands and adoption of scientific advances to provide us with some of the highest rated agricultural soils in the world. Farmers have survived the challenges of nature’s forces, economic hardships, and inter-generational transfers of land, and have specialized into the corn and bean “breadbasket” for the world. today with the introduction of technologies and the interdependence with argribusiness, less than 2% of the US population remains on the highly efficient farms. Join us as we look at the challenges, choices, and changes that have been an integral part of McLean County farming History.

ISU Chorale: Once Upon a December

Conducted by John M. Koch, the hundred member ISU Civic Chorale will perform seasonal arrangements by Dan Forrest, Howard Helvey, Mark Shepperd, Ola Gjeilo, Peter Anglea, Alan Silvestri and Franz Josef Haydn.

Performance time is 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in the Gov. Fifer Room. Guest soloists will be Glenn Wilson (soprano sax) and Christine Cicha (cello). Our amazing Patricia Foltz on the piano! Admission is FREE, but there will be a free will offering box. Dress in holiday attire and join us for punch and cookies at intermission! Special performance by Bloomington-Normal’s newest female a cappella group BEAUTIES AND THE BEAT under the direction of Tracy Marie Koch!
