Illinois State University’s Latin American and Latino Studies Program and the McLean County Museum of History are teaming up to host a community reading group. We are encouraging our community to read Dr. Sujey Vega’s book, Latino Heartland: Of Borders and Belonging in the Midwest (June 2015, NYU Press) in preparation for her visit to Bloomington-Normal.Professor Vega, an Anthropologist at Arizona State University, will speak on the Illinois State campus on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m., Old Main Room, Bone Student Center. On Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Mclean County Museum of History, we will hold a community “charla” with the author. Copies of the book can be borrowed from both the Bloomington and Normal public libraries and they are available for purchase at the Museum, Babbitt’s Books, or Barnes and Noble. Both speaker programs are free and open to the public thanks to the Sage Foundation Fund at Illinois State.
