March 26th, 2014

Listen to the audio on WGLT's website here

McHistory goes back in time to explore big moments and small stories from McLean County history. McHistory episodes can be heard periodically on WGLT's Sound Ideas.

Lobbying days in Springfield happen every year in which interest groups throng to the state capitol to push for certain legislation. As part of GLT's joint project with the McLean County Museum of History, we take you back more than a century to hear what was an important issue of 1909.

This McHistory starts with a Chicago and Alton Railroad Trip.

Barbara Egger married the much older John Brown Lennon of Bloomington, a major figure in American Labor History. He was the National Treasurer of the American Federation of Labor under Samuel Gompers and the General Secretary of the Journeyman Tailors Union. Barbara Egger Lennon lived until age 98 and died in 1983.

McHistory is a co production of GLT and the McLean County Museum of History. This episode included the voices of Librarian Bill Kemp and historian Tina Stewart Brakebill of Illinois State University and was produced by GLT's Charlie Schlenker.
